Honey, let me play with those kids, and you go thrifting!!!!

My family lives in Bristol, Virginia.  Most people have heard of Bristol, Tennessee.  Same place, the state line runs right though the town. Sometimes when I go home, I get crazy and go downtown and stand half in Virgina and half in Tennessee.  But the main reason that I go downtown is because of the antique shops and thrift stores!!!  They are EVERYWHERE.  I went home last week for one last visit before school started.  I arrived home on Thursday afternoon and I couldn’t believe that some people in my parent’s neighborhood were having a yard sale!!  I forgot that in Virgina and Tennessee they like to start their yard sales early.  I LOVE IT!

Bristol has tons of hidden little antique and thrifts store that have AMAZING junk.  My mom is always so great, “let me keep the kids while you go look around”!!  I always take her up on it!!!

This visit was no exception! While mom played with the kids, I high tailed it downtown and hit as many little stores and yard sales as I could.
I have been looking for a cool toolbox.  I found this at a yard sale for 6.00, but I talked him down to $5.00!  Can’t wait to clean it up and put it to use.

This vase and peace nutcracker were $1.00 each.  I didn’t buy either but they made me smile.
This is exactly the kind of stuff I look for.  A great sturdy antique chair/bench dropped off at Salvation Army.  It will look great painted with new fabric for the seat.  $10.00.

I loved these crosses.  I bought 6 of them for $5.00 each.  They will be great to paint and embellish and sell at either Sanctuary or at my Metrolina booth in October.
I love these old tobacco baskets.  I have seen them for sale for $150.00 at high end antique stores.  These were $15.00 dollars each at this thrift store, but since I wanted both he gave me a discount of $10.00 each.  SOLD!  My Metrolina booth is getting full!

I stared at these three LARGE wood pieces for at least 30 minutes trying to decide if I should buy them, what I would do with them, and how I would get them home.  Every time the owner of the thrift store walked by she lowered the price by $5.00.  I got all three for $15.00….ok now what am I going to do with them??  Any ideas?? Headboard? Art Piece? Firewood?

I think this was my favorite find of the day.  It was about 1:00 and all the yard sales were shutting down.  I pulled up to one house and the lady said everything is a quarter!!!  So this $2.00 fabric wall hanging was down to a quarter!  I think It will be going in my daughter’s room.  I would totally hang it in my bedroom but something tells me that my husband would not be very fond of it.

Also grabbed these brand new Dr. Scholl’s sandals for .25!!
I couldn’t pass up this $1.00 ceramic owl bank!

I wanted this so bad.  I knew it would be so cute painted but at $14.00 and it didn’t even work, I had to leave it behind.

OOPS how did this picture of the cutest girl in the world get in here???
I heart painted ladders, and grab them up whenever I see them.  I am going to paint this blue (shocker) and take it to Metrolina.
This table had $20.00 on it but since it was the end of the day, she gave it to me for $5.00.  I have some great ideas for it!
While I was out and about, I ran by one of my best friend’s house to grab a bite to eat.  She and her hubby had rescued this door out of the trash.  It was a gift to me.  How do you know if your friends really know and love you????  When they give you a door from the trash!  I was over the moon!
Ok I got everything in but I think I forgot to make room for the kids and the dog, and the suitcases, and the dog crate.
This door turned out to be the perfect divider for my kids.  Since they couldn’t see or touch each other there was no fighting and it was a very peaceful drive back to NC!!  I may just leave that door in the car from now on!

We are all meant to shine!

i
Do you remember this crazy yellow bench?  I could never decide if I liked it or not.  But my buddy and boss, Krissy at Sanctuary, said she liked it!!

So when she created this beauty with one of my most favorite quotes, I jumped up and down!!!!  Would she be interested in a trade!?!?!?  Trading with other artists is one of my favorite ways to get beautiful artwork without having to pay cash.  Krissy and I have done our fair share of trading!! My house looks like a Kristen Feighery meet the artist night.

Our Deepest Fear By Marianne Williamson

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That most frightens us.
We ask ourselves
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small
Does not serve the world.
There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine,
As children do.
We were born to make manifest
The glory of God that is within us.
It’s not just in some of us;
It’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we’re liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.

She was down with the trade!!!

And since I have no more wall space because of my unhealthy obsession with artwork, I am now hanging things on my furniture!!!!

An Empty Wall!!!! OH NOOOOO!!!

I bought this rubber circle mirror at a yard sale for $8.00. I totally intended to resale it at Metrolina but when I got home I had the perfect place for it. To complete the wall, I added some smaller mirrors that I had hanging in my entry way.

But then I had an empty wall…oh dear. My husband jokes that we are going to have to start hanging stuff on the ceiling. I just love paintings and find tons of beautiful ones for next to nothing on my thrifting escapades! You can read more that here.  Not that there is anything wrong with an empty wall.  I think an empty wall is sooooo much better than just hanging something to fill a space.  A couple of years ago, I got rid of everything that I didn’t absolutely love.  I had a bunch of empty walls.  I have slowly added only things that I love and make me smile.

I found this original painting at Sleepy Poet for under $10.00. I loved the colors and the flowers, however I didn’t love the frame.

As soon as I popped off the frame the colors seemed even more brilliant and the painting looked like it came from a fancy art gallery.

I thought that it would look great beside my giant tree and the fabric hanging in my entry way. But it looked a little loney all by itself.

I had these two original paintings in my sewing room sitting on my window. The butterfly came from Metrolina for .25 and the bird also came for Sleepy poet for $6.00.

They were both painted on canvas board so I had no way to hang them. I grabbed some pin backs and hot glued them on. Not the most professional way or the sturdiest, but i doubt anyone will be inspecting them or yanking on them! Plus I was on a mission to fix that empty wall, no time for professionalism.

I love a good painting cluster!  Here are some other painting clusters I have around my house…….

Does anyone love painting clusters as much as I do!?!?!?!?  What kind of clusters do you have in your house??  Is it weird that I keep using the word cluster??
