I’ve really been enjoying my orb! I love to turn it on at night before bed! I am definitely one of those people who could have white Christmas lights strung all over the house year round. Something about lights and candles makes me very happy. What I needed to make this space complete was a little table to put my hot tea on and some art work behind the chair. But the goal was to use what I had and not spend any money.
I searched the house high and low, surely I had something I could use for a side table. At one time not too long ago I would have had 15 side tables out in my garage waiting for paint. I even searched the attic. Nothing. Then I remembered this…….
A few months ago we had to cut down a tree in the front yard. Inspired by the Nester’s stump tables and by West Elm’s extremely expensive stump tables, I was excited to have some stumps right in my very own front yard. I started peeling off the bark on one stump and before I knew it I had 7 kids in my front yard chiseling, hammering, and pulling off the bark for me. I had coffee and watched.
The logs have been in the garage drying out for the past two months. I think they could have used a little more time but I needed a side table and I needed one now!!! They were the perfect size and the best part, FREE. I used that wire brush to scrub off the old sap and then grabbed some grey wall paint I had in the garage. I didn’t treat the logs or have the bug person come look them over. Yes I could be bringing in termites, or log bugs, or some kind of air mountain disease. I’m risky like that. I am definitely one of those ask for forgiveness instead of permission kind of people!!
On that note, I have seen people over and over who want to do a project, make something, paint something, or fix up something they have. But they start over thinking the project, create too much prep work, or think they have to follow the rules, and then they spend too much time looking for the rules. They feel paralyzed and unable to start the project out of fear of making a mistake or doing it wrong. I had someone recently ask me the correct way to clean an old window. Hmmmmm with a hose?? I don’t like to clean or treat or make sure everything is perfect before I start. That takes wayyyy too long and totally takes the fun out of it. Yes I have had projects completely flop because I didn’t take the time to clean or measure or go to lowe’s to get the correct products. But on the flip side, I get things done and I have a lot of fun doing them. Most things are not perfect but I’m just fine with that because I’m creating and living out my passion. So far I have not been arrested for not cleaning a piece before painting it. Might have been arrested for something else but definitely not for dirt under paint!! Plus life is too short to clean dirt off an old window, isn’t the antiqued look in!?! So my advice on this rainy Monday morning…… Go paint that thing, go make that thing, go change up that furniture in your living room. Just go do something you have been wanting to do instead of thinking too much about it. That thinking part is overrated. Yes I am feeling feisty today.
P.S. Enter to win this Button Bird Owl Pillow! All you have to do to enter is leave a comment as to why you think I was arrested!!! This should be Fun!!!
