I totally know it’s not an orb, part 2 and giveaway!!!!

DSC04394

I’ve really been enjoying my orb!  I love to turn it on at night before bed!  I am definitely one of those people who could have white Christmas lights strung all over the house year round.  Something about lights and candles makes me very happy.  What I needed to make this space complete was a little table to put my hot tea on and some art work behind the chair.  But the goal was to use what I had and not spend any money.

I searched the house high and low, surely I had something I could use for a side table.  At one time not too long ago I would have had 15 side tables out in my garage waiting for paint.  I even searched the attic.  Nothing.  Then I remembered this…….

painted stumps

A few months ago we had to cut down a tree in the front yard.  Inspired by the Nester’s stump tables and by West Elm’s extremely expensive stump tables, I was excited to have some stumps right in my very own front yard.  I started peeling off the bark on one stump and before I knew it I had 7 kids in my front yard chiseling, hammering, and pulling off the bark for me.  I had coffee and watched.

painted stumps

The logs have been in the garage drying out for the past two months.  I think they could have used a little more time but I needed a side table and I needed one now!!!  They were the perfect size and the best part, FREE.  I used that wire brush to scrub off the old sap and then grabbed some grey wall paint I had in the garage.  I didn’t treat the logs or have the bug person come look them over.  Yes I could be bringing in termites, or log bugs, or some kind of air mountain disease.  I’m risky like that.  I am definitely one of those ask for forgiveness instead of permission kind of people!!

On that note, I have seen people over and over who want to do a project, make something, paint something, or fix up something they have.  But they start over thinking the project, create too much prep work, or think they have to follow the rules, and then they spend too much time looking for the rules.  They feel paralyzed and unable to start the project out of fear of making a mistake or doing it wrong.  I had someone recently ask me the correct way to clean an old window.  Hmmmmm with a hose??  I don’t like to clean or treat or make sure everything is perfect before I start.  That takes wayyyy too long and totally takes the fun out of it.  Yes I have had projects completely flop because I didn’t take the time to clean or measure or go to lowe’s to get the correct products.  But on the flip side, I get things done and I have a lot of fun doing them.  Most things are not perfect but I’m just fine with that because I’m creating and living out my passion.  So far I have not been arrested for not cleaning a piece before painting it.  Might have been arrested for something else but definitely not for dirt under paint!!  Plus life is too short to clean dirt off an old window, isn’t the antiqued look in!?!  So my advice on this rainy Monday morning……  Go paint that thing, go make that thing, go change up that furniture in your living room.  Just go do something you have been wanting to do instead of thinking too much about it.   That thinking part is overrated.  Yes I am feeling feisty today.

I don’t think you’ve ever been arrested but since I’d like to win that cute pillow, I’m going to guess that you were arrested for dumpster diving!

  5. Angie October 7, 2013 at 3:42 pm #

I like the fake ID story :) Cute tables!

  6. brittney October 7, 2013 at 4:10 pm #

SUPER CUTE, Im going to have my husband make me some now!! I NEVER would have thought to paint them, they look great, and Im sure the paint killed any termites and creepy crawlys that might have been in there…………probably anyways. Do you think I could use the mirror spray paint on them and make them look “glassy?”

    • brittney October 7, 2013 at 4:13 pm #

Oh and WHY you got arrested…………………..hmmmm obviously by breaking child labor laws, and making the kids strip bark ;)

    • angela October 8, 2013 at 11:12 pm #

Hi Brittney!! I don’t know what wouldn’t that be awesome!!! I would love to have some glassy stumps!!!! Try it and let me know!!!

I’m guilty of overthinking things now. I didn’t used to be, but I’ve had to redo enough projects, that now, I think, before I paint. I don’t have time to redo everything, and most the time, it isn’t just an aged look that happens to them. Ugh!

LOVE your little reading corner, especially the soft, subtle palette!

And I’m guessing you were arrested for skinny dipping ;). LOVE that little pillow to bits!

    • angela October 8, 2013 at 11:13 pm #

      Thank you Jinny!!!

I was going to ask why you were arrested, but then I got to the end of your post. I will say that you got arrested at Mardi Gras because you were trying to get some beads (and we all know how you get the beads)! I’m sure you were going to repurpose them for a great chandelier or something! I love your little corner of happiness!

    • angela October 8, 2013 at 11:14 pm #

hahahahah!! These comments are cracking me up! Hmmmmmmm Mardi Gras sure does sound fun!!!!!!
Yes a little corner of happiness, maybe that is what I will start calling it!!

    • angela October 8, 2013 at 11:15 pm #

Hi Rachel! I love my little pumpkin too! My friend the Nester gave it to me! Do you read her blog? THe Nesting Place? She has a link on her blog to the pumpkin site!

You got arrested for Charity…. :)

  11. Dana at Happy Little Lovelies October 7, 2013 at 10:00 pm #

arrested…for being awesome? (name that movie) I could totally see you being rebellious as a teenager and climbing a water tower or throwing eggs at something. And I love that you defended skipping all the steps because that’s exactly what I say to my husband. it still drives his slow, methodical self crazy, but I just can’t be bothered with 14 steps before I start having any fun. That’s completely against my creative, right-brained approach to life. :)

    • angela October 8, 2013 at 11:18 pm #

hahahaha! Yes!!!! Me too, who has time for allllll those steps! I want to get to the fun part!! I have a friend who sounds a lot like your husband and when she starts talking about all those steps, I’m like are we even working on the same project!!! Yes may have been just a little tab bit rebellious as a teenager, or maybe a WHOLE LOT BIT rebellious as a teenager;)
      lots of love friend,

  14. Gwen October 7, 2013 at 11:54 pm #

First I am so impressed your tables are so level!! My hubby cut down a tree that was an invasive kind and scraggly but I was going to salvage a branch or two. No such luck. He scurried to our green recycling before I even knew he was doing the project! So I’m very impressed you had your stumps and drank coffee while the neighbor kids scraped!! And I like them painted. Never would have thought of gray. Looks good. With my niece’s junior high science project light :). Now for the getting arrested. You had been told by some guy that yes, you and your friend could ride their horses after school but he’d be at his FFA meeting. He gave explicit directions on how many mailboxes before you turned right and you were to count fence posts to get to the correct place that he kept his horses. Beauts he said they were. So you and your best friend Miss Hook n Eye did just as he said. You carefully parked her grandpa’s 1962 red Ford pickup where you were told. And off you rode. Ah such fun you had!! You were getting hot so off you headed to the local DQ as they’re called now when some man in a BIG Cadillac with horns on the front, veins bulging, face purple, cops following him, is screaming Thieves!! You’re a bit scared. I mean, you’re on horses. These thieves could easily overtake you. Icecream cone in one hand the two of you swiftly ride for safe country. But the lunatic with the odd Caddy along with now four squad cars are following. Are these thieves in front of Miss Button and Miss Hook n Eye? Fear gripped their soul and also their grip until the cone was just a melted mess in their hand. Frozen, these two young gals didn’t know where to turn so they did what any normal American girl would do. They ditched those big ponies and ran!! Cops were yelling. The man with the purple face kept blowing the horn of his horned Caddy that sounded worse than a bleating calf. Poor Miss B. poor Miss H. Cops grabbed THEM!!! What??? Where’s the thieves?? Long story short, Mr FFA had it in for his two classmates. They were so nice and so popular and nothing ever went wrong for THEM. He knew Mr Caddy had his prized horses secretly hidden in stables hard to find so Mr FFA-ER decided to send Miss B and Miss H out to ride his prized horses! And you bet he called the cops that he saw some shady characters taking off with the horses. And yes, he called Mr Caddy as well. He laughed from around the corner as the two gals tried crying and shouting and begging but no cop listened! Served them right. Until two hours later. Mr FFH-ER was busy cleaning his cattle stall when this time the sirens came for HIM. The girls stories matched. Eye witnesses heard him telling the girls how to get to his horses and giving them permission to ride. All a lie. And so that evening Miss Button and Miss Hook n Eye sat inside the DQ and decided to eat their cone sitting down. Never again were they going to be taken in by some guy promising nice horses for nothing. What a sigh of relief too. Arrested, but case never opened!!! So they each skipped home and did their Mom’s dishes for a week just because.

    • angela October 8, 2013 at 11:22 pm #

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! oh my gosh Gwen!! Where do you come up with this stuff!?!?!?! Miss hook n eye!?!? Will you be my miss hook n eye!?!?
love your stories and love your comments. THank you for always making me smile;)

The only way you could have possibly been arrested was due to a case of mistaken identity!
Right, that would be the only reasonable explanation, given who you are! Can’t wait to hear if I am right! No matter what, though, there is always grace (and we all need that, don’t we!?)

    • angela October 8, 2013 at 11:26 pm #

I was going to say dumpster diving, but If I had to guess another, probably not having vehicle registration or car insurance. I can’t even imagine you protesting. Creative tables. Have a wonderful week.

  21. Cindy M October 8, 2013 at 12:24 am #

    Love the side tables!!

Hmmmm … I think you were arrested on a Saturday morning for indecent exposure when you forgot to put your robe over your summer jammies in your haste to get to the 6 am garage sales!!

Disclaimer: This is totally tongue in cheek, you know :) I’ve read that you are an early person and you LOVE garage sales!

  22. Janet October 8, 2013 at 12:27 am #

    Hi Angie,
I just pinned your little corner with “what more could a body want?” Looks so cozy. You getting arrested. Hmmmmm Must have been for something relating to tag sales…….nuisance for being there too early? :-)

  23. Julie October 8, 2013 at 1:09 am #

OK, love the stump tables. Love your “orb” (aka Moravian star…the tradition being that each point of the star represents an attribute of God.) I have one, too, and love it! Never thought about hanging it in our bedroom, but you rock it. And I think you may have been arrested for holding a sale without a permit…with thousands flocking to buy! That owl…hmmmmm…I just spent the weekend helping our daughter prepare the nursery for our first grandchild, due a month from today. You’d love her style…and that owl would be perfect for Baby Lizzy.

I love reading your many adventures and projects you do! Attended Becoming last year and went to your trash to treasure class- so I enjoy your blog :) I would have to say I dont think you have been arrested, but just for fun my guess is that you were stalking unsuspecting folks hosting garage sales..lol ! hope i win the cute little owl pillow!

  25. cindy October 8, 2013 at 10:38 am #

What inspiration your blog was today. I felt it was totally directed to me. How many times have I been inspired and made a list for Lowes when I had the supplies to improvise at hand??!! Too many….

Now, for you being arrested….you almost got a ticket for being double parked while “lifting” a dresser that had been left on a sidewalk. Of course it would have been fine, but it belonged to a police officer who was just moving in. The officer thought it was funny until you told him you were goung to paint it periwinkle, then it was all he could do to keep from slapping on the cuffs. I know because I was driving the get away car.

Now off to burn my lists.

(PS I’ll send you my address and prisoner number in a private message)

  26. Su@TheIntentionalHome October 8, 2013 at 12:43 pm #

LOVE your little nook! LOVE the logs and your little worker bees! Would have loved to drink coffee with you and flip through your craft books and chat (while they worked!!)

And I think I remember a story that involved the WAFFLE HOUSE!!!! ;)

  29. BethC October 8, 2013 at 1:52 pm #

    Love your log tables!

You were arrested for stalking the address of a yard sale days before it started. lol

  30. cher October 8, 2013 at 2:36 pm #

I love the pillow! Also, love the fact that the giveaway is guessing how you were arrested. I am guessing you picked up a drunk & disorderly afer loosing some major yard sale treasures to an even earlier bird, and you just had to belly up somewhere to drink away the pain.

  31. Cindy October 8, 2013 at 3:04 pm #

I say you were arrested for impersonating a normal person (hahahaha – NORMAL is so overrated.)
There are some funny guesses before mine. All I know is I love your blog and want to win that gorgeous owl for my grand-daughter. Thank you so much for the happiness you bring into my mostly mundane days!

  32. Kristen October 8, 2013 at 4:28 pm #

Eek! I’d love to win! I’m gonna say it was because you didn’t have insurance! ;)

    • angela October 8, 2013 at 11:36 pm #

      Whatttttttt insurance!!?!?!?!?

      • Kristen October 8, 2013 at 11:40 pm #

On an another note- is that an IKEA dresser? Looove it!

    • angela October 8, 2013 at 11:36 pm #

      Hi Kristen!
Are you talking about the black or the grey dresser? Neither are from Ikea. Grey one from goodwill, black one is from thomasville. My husband is in the mattress business and sometimes can get a good hook up on furniture!

Angela, you make my day you are hysterical especially on your crazy days! Thanks for the smiles you put on my face. I am going to guess that you got in a grabbing, I saw it first match with another person at a yard sale over some wooden furniture that was calling your name and it got ugly!! They had to call the police because you stood on top of the furniture claiming it and would not leave until the other person gave in and left. Disturbing the peace in the name of furniture!
By the way, you knew just where you were going to put that piece in your house!

I love the Owls, I just bought 2 owl pictures (kiddie) for my 3 1/2 yr old granddaughter’s bedroom. She is the light in my heart, she lit up the darkness, with her huge smile, big blue eyes and goldilocks hair. I would love to win an owl pillow to accessorize her room.

hmmmmmmmm arrested, I want to say something mischievously innocent. Maybe dumpster diving on private property. Did you jump a fence to get something out of dumpster? LOLOLOL
