Ohhhhh, how I wish I could paint. sigh. I can paint a piece of wood, or a desk, or a piece of trash, but I really want to learn how to really paint. I want to paint cows, and barns, and old pickup trucks, and mason jars full of flowers like this……
Isn’t this painting beautiful!?!? It was a Mother’s Day gift from my mom and dad! Thank you Mom and Dad, I love staring at it everyday! It was painted by the beautiful and extremely multi talented Dawn Paton of Humbleotterstudio. I emailed Dawn and begged her to teach me how to paint, to give me lessons of any kind, I would pay, I would clean, anything just help me learn how to do that. I just want to be able to pick up a paint brush and paint something, anything!!! Dawn said she used the cheapest paint and the cheapest brushes and just played until she decided to stop. I had cheap paint and I had cheap brushes!!! So I tried……..
And. this. is. what. I. came. up. with.
And. this. I was SO excited when I started, but ALOT less excited when I finished.
I was mad that I had wasted all morning playing with paints and all I came up with was circles and lines!!!! Of course you have to play and make mistakes to learn… right!?!?! But I still had wasted so much time and had nothing to show for it. To make myself feel better, I grabbed something I was familiar with………. good ole sandpaper and antiquing glaze!
I showed that painting who was boss and sanded that crap out of it. I also added a little bit of glaze as you can see!
I also grabbed another favorite…Modge Podge! I added some pretty paper to a couple of wood bird cut outs.
I also had these two owls that I had been wanting to do something with!
I don’t know how I feel about these, I’m still on the fence. Of course the paintings didn’t turn out how I wanted them to, but maybe they turned out how I see things in my mind. Maybe I will never be able to paint a tractor with a brilliant blue sky in the background and daises growing all around, but you better believe I will definitely bring parts of the tractor home and try to make something out of it!
