wood house

This wood piece that I cut from the Noel/Love sign almost ended up in the trash.  As I picked it up, I realized it looked a lot like a roof!  I suddenly had an idea for a wood house starring this piece of almost trash.

wood house

I grabbed another piece of wood that was screaming to play the part of the house.

Odds and ends.

wood house

Small ruler for the chimney.

wood house

Old quilt scraps for the windows and the door.

wood house A little black thread to outline the windows and the door.

I then broke out my stamp collection and a wood bird from Michael’s.

I Mod Podged stamps onto the bird until he was completely covered,

and let him dry for about an hour.

It only took me 45 minutes to find my exacto knife!  Once I found it, I cut around the bird removing the stamps that were hanging over the wood bird.

Remember these flowers I found at Goodwill?  I still had a few left over!

Noel…I mean love!

love sign

The Nester and I were driving home a few weeks ago and out of no where a sign for an estate sale appeared!!! Insert screeching breaks here.  Wow we were so excited because it was Friday and it was an estate sale!!!!  Turns out they didn’t have much but they did have some leftover Christmas decorations.  I grabbed this Noel word for $1.00!

love sign

I keep thinking about what else I could do with the letters.  All I could come up with was the word NO!  I didn’t know what kind of piece of art I could make that would incorporate the word no, so I kept on thinking.  Then I realized if I cut a portion of the N off, I could turn it upside down and have a V!!  LOVE!!

???????????????????????????????

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner this was perfect.  I wanted to have some love stuff in my booth at Sanctuary so I was on a mission.  A love mission that is.

???????????????????????????????

Then last Thursday on the way home again with Nester (she must be my good luck charm), I saw this giant piece of wood lying on the side of the road.  Only a good friend will stop the car and help you load a giant, dirty, heavy piece of trash into her car!

???????????????????????????????

 I cut off the bottom.

love sign

Bright beautiful blue paint.  But of course.

love sign

I used some glaze and mixed it with brown paint to give the wood an aged look.

Can you see the difference?  Instead of the bright blue, it dulls the paint and gives it some dimension.

???????????????????????????????

I think this sign would be great in a corner of a playroom or in a kitchen or on a back porch.  It would be a good reminder that all we need is a little love!!  I also like how it is pointing up, kinda like pointing to God for love!  Do you need a giant love sign!?  It can be yours for $68.00!  Sorry no shipping on this bad boy!

And the winner of the Button Bird clutch and owl is………Jamie Pelaez!!!  Congratulations Jamie!

Love giveaways!?!?  Stay tuned, I am sewing like a mad woman and have lots of sweet spring bags in the making.  Lots of fun giveaways coming up!

Backgammon Art

Hi There!  So happy you stopped by!  Won’t you take a minute and like Button Bird Designs on face book?  Right over there to the right?!  Why thank you!  Also sign up to receive these posts by email so you don’t miss out on any trash to treasure projects, easy do it yourself tutorials, or all the fun we are having up in here!!!  xoxoxoxo Angela

Wood art

I found this box at Habitat Restore for $4.00.  I have no idea what made me open it up to see what was inside.  I’ve never played Backgammon before but for some reason my curiosity got the best of me.

Wood art

When I opened it, I could not believe all those beautiful little pieces of wood!!!! (and bugs)!

Wood art

Remember these!!?!?  Four of these cowboy pictures hung in my son’s room before he discovered football and Xbox.

Wood art

Nester I feel your pain.  The photo of her dog here cracked me up and made me laugh out loud.  Then the next day I had some of my own dog photo bombing going on (as Ellen calls it).

Dixie May was actually with me when I bought the Backgammon game.  Yes I bought the game some time ago and yes I got in trouble for taking her into Habitat, but not as much trouble as when I took her into the grocery store.  Apparently that is a big no no.

Wood art

Paint and some little wood pieces from the game.

wood Art

I was totally in a girly mood……

wood Art

but also had to go with my favorites!

wood Art

I cut a few pieces of the wood so it would fit in the freshly painted cowboy frames, then I hot glued all the pieces down.

wood Art

I found these at Habitat as well!  Three sets of letter stencils for 50 cents!

wood Art

Luckily my friend and boss lady over at Sanctuary of Davidson, Krissy just showed me how to use these stencils and make the letters look pretty.  When you use these stencils the letters have gaps in them.  See that O up there?!?!?  All you have to do is just fill that in with paint!!!  Duhhhhhhh how did I not know that!?!?

wood Art

The left over scrapes from the wood pieces I cut became a separate project.  Maybe a little problem with throwing anything away?!?!!  You think?

Happy Tuesday!!!  What are you going to do today to make it awesome!?!?  I’m getting my haircut!  Yeehaw!
