This early bird got the worm!

No doubt about it, the prices at thrift stores are going up.  Womp Womp.  I’ve had a much harder time lately finding furniture to paint.  I just can’t pay $80 bucks for a dresser at Goodwill and expect to make any money by repainting and reselling it.   I’ve also never have any luck with Craigslist.  Yard sales have always been my best bet for finding furniture and odds and ends to redo and resale.

I decided this past weekend that I was going to hit some yard sales and wasn’t coming back until I had scored several pieces of furniture!  I woke up wayyyyyy early Saturday morning, drank wayyyyyyy too much coffee, and left the house at 6:30 am.  Yes I am that person sitting outside your house waiting for you to hurry up and open up your garage and start your sale!  It’s true, the early bird gets the worm!!!

Here’s some of the fun stuff I found on my little yard sale adventure……

Yard sale finds

I’m a sucker for original paintings.  This painting on canvas was $8.00 and will be going in my guest room.

Yard Sale

$1.00 sign and $1.00 basket.

Yard Sale

I have a list on my phone of things that my friends have asked me to look for while I’m out and about.  I can’t wait to give this to my friend who has been looking for a Cuckoo clock!!  This never been out of the box clock was $12.00 and the pea candle that I just couldn’t pass up was $1.00.

Yard Sale find

$5.00 end table.

Yard Sale find

$4.00 Picnic baskets!

Yard Sale find

This is ugly, but at $1.00 I already have a plan for this guy!

Yard Sale find

$8.00 vanity and stool.  Just the stool alone is worth the $8.00!!!  I can not wait to paint these two pieces and recover the stool.  Bye Bye viney flowers!

Yard Sale find

I think this was my favorite find of the day.  It use to hold an old radio but was replaced with two little shelves.  I’m going to fix the shelves and paint!  I might be keeping this for myself!  $10.00

Yard Sale find

Little end tables sell really well, especially when painted blue! hahaha!  $6.00

Yard Sale find

$20.00 dresser!  Finally a dresser that doesn’t cost $80.00!!!

Yard Sale find

This shelf unit is pretty ugly too, but has sooooo much potential!  I am hoping I have enough barn wood to enclose the sides and back.  At $10.00 it will be fun to play with!

Yard Sale find

Oh yes, I had to feed my shoe addiction by grabbing these new Steve Madden heels for $2.00

5-11 Yard Sale (1)

I almost died when I saw these $3.00 Vintage cowboy boots!  The lady selling them said they belonged to her grandmother and she tried and tried to wear them but they were just too small!  Well guess which Cinderella they fit!!!?!?  They are sooooooo soft and already broken in!!!  Is it fall yet!?!?

Yard Sale find Not bad for a Saturday morning!  Guess I have some projects to get working on!!!  Anyone want to come help paint!!!

What is your favorite yard sale find!?!?!

My happy place (is finally clean)!

I did some much needed cleaning today.  Puke.  I cleaned out so much stuff, I think I might be ready for another Big Sale!  Since my happy place is all clean and organized I thought I would share some photos with you.

art studio

This is my happy place.  I LOVEEE this room. I create in the room. I read in this room. I pray in this room. I just hang out in this room.  Everyone needs a little space to call their own. It could be a large studio or a corner in the kitchen. At our last house my space was in a closet that was large enough for a very small desk. I would open the doors and pull up a chair. I then moved all my stuff into the guest room, where I set up my sewing machine and had a little more room for my growing collection of fabric, buttons, trim, art supplies, and books.  The space I have now is right when you walk in our front door.  It’s suppose to be the formal living room, but we are not formal people and would never use it for that.   I love making good use of the space we have.  This room probably gets more use then any other in the house!!!!!  Having it right when you walk in the front door helps me keep it clean and organized.

wood house

This wood piece that I cut from the Noel/Love sign almost ended up in the trash.  As I picked it up, I realized it looked a lot like a roof!  I suddenly had an idea for a wood house starring this piece of almost trash.

wood house

I grabbed another piece of wood that was screaming to play the part of the house.

wood house

Odds and ends.

wood house

Small ruler for the chimney.

wood house

Old quilt scraps for the windows and the door.

wood house A little black thread to outline the windows and the door.

I then broke out my stamp collection and a wood bird from Michael’s.

I Mod Podged stamps onto the bird until he was completely covered,

and let him dry for about an hour.

It only took me 45 minutes to find my exacto knife!  Once I found it, I cut around the bird removing the stamps that were hanging over the wood bird.

Remember these flowers I found at Goodwill?  I still had a few left over!
