20 bucks, 2 statues and a whole lot of nakedness.

I bought a couple of statues recently that I just love.

Decorating with Statues

I found this awesome owl at Hobby Lobby.  He was $30.00 but with the 50% off sale, I got him for $15.00.  Pretty impressed with the math aren’t you!

Decorating with Statues This naked man caught my eye at Metrolina Antique and Flea Market.  I kinda picked him up as a joke, but when I found out he was only $5.00 the joke was over.  This naked man was coming home with me.

Decorating with Statues

Found a perfect spot in my studio for my owl friend.

After nakedness.

I found the small green dresser by the trash on the side of the road.  I painted it and added dragonfly knobs.  The painting is an original that I bought at Salvation Army for $20.00.  The lamp came from a yard sale for $1.00 and lampshade is from Tuesday Morning.

Decorating with Statues

You can only imagine how much this statue has made my kids giggle and how many strange looks I have gotten from my husband.  Totally worth the 5 bucks.

Decorating with Statues I especially love that fact that he is totally falling apart and underneath the white paint is a green body that matches the dresser!

Man I love flea markets!!  Can I get a heck yeah!?!?!?

Noel…I mean love!

love sign

The Nester and I were driving home a few weeks ago and out of no where a sign for an estate sale appeared!!! Insert screeching breaks here.  Wow we were so excited because it was Friday and it was an estate sale!!!!  Turns out they didn’t have much but they did have some leftover Christmas decorations.  I grabbed this Noel word for $1.00!

love sign

I keep thinking about what else I could do with the letters.  All I could come up with was the word NO!  I didn’t know what kind of piece of art I could make that would incorporate the word no, so I kept on thinking.  Then I realized if I cut a portion of the N off, I could turn it upside down and have a V!!  LOVE!!

???????????????????????????????

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner this was perfect.  I wanted to have some love stuff in my booth at Sanctuary so I was on a mission.  A love mission that is.

???????????????????????????????

Then last Thursday on the way home again with Nester (she must be my good luck charm), I saw this giant piece of wood lying on the side of the road.  Only a good friend will stop the car and help you load a giant, dirty, heavy piece of trash into her car!

???????????????????????????????

 I cut off the bottom.

love sign

Bright beautiful blue paint.  But of course.

I used some glaze and mixed it with brown paint to give the wood an aged look.

Can you see the difference?  Instead of the bright blue, it dulls the paint and gives it some dimension.

???????????????????????????????

I think this sign would be great in a corner of a playroom or in a kitchen or on a back porch.  It would be a good reminder that all we need is a little love!!  I also like how it is pointing up, kinda like pointing to God for love!  Do you need a giant love sign!?  It can be yours for $68.00!  Sorry no shipping on this bad boy!

And the winner of the Button Bird clutch and owl is………Jamie Pelaez!!!  Congratulations Jamie!

Love giveaways!?!?  Stay tuned, I am sewing like a mad woman and have lots of sweet spring bags in the making.  Lots of fun giveaways coming up!

Why you should never laugh at your husband when he is helping you hang something.

Hanging lamp

This is my happy place.  I have talked about my sewing room/studio many times.  I just love this room.  I read in here, pray in here, create in here, I am writing this post in here. I would bathe in here if I had running water.  It’s my place where I can be creative and it is completely and totally me.  However I do have one small complaint.  The lighting is horrible.  I get great light during the day, but now that it gets dark at like 2:00 I have a hard time working in here when the sun goes down.  That three bulb lamp on the fabric case is one of my allllll time favorite yard sale finds for $10.00 years ago.  I love it but it is definitely does not put out enough light.

Hanging lamp

I have been keeping my eyes open when thrifting, for the perfect lamp to hang over my desk. Of course I didn’t want to spend a lot of money and it had to be unique, fun, and quirky.  I saw this last week while thrifting with a dear dear friend.  I pushed her out of the way to get to it first.  Noooooooo just kidding, I would never do that.

Hanging lamp

Boy was it ugly…. but it was the perfect size, shape, and price.

Hanging lamp

I thought and thought about what I could do to it to give it new life.  What color should I paint it, what could I glue on it, What could I hang from it.  Then I did what every impatient person does.  I went out to my garage and found the fullest can of spray paint, which just happened to be blue, and went with that.  No trips to Lowe’s, no thinking about it for days.  I just have to do it when I am thinking about it or it won’t get done.

Hanging lamp

Enter this guy.  Well hello there hot man.  Will you please pleassssssse step away from the football game to please please help me hang this lamp.  Insert sweet voice and batting of the eyelashes.

Hanging lamp

We got tickled when husband stepped back and almost fell off my desk.

Hanging lamp

I continued to be tickled about it and couldn’t stop laughing.  Here is where he says, “Stop laughing, put down the camera or I’m not helping you.”  Ohhhhhh my gosh what is it with people tripping or falling down that totally cracks me up and sends me over the edge in a laughing fit?!?!?!

Hanging lamp

So I finally calmed down with the threat of him not helping me and we measured the room and found the center.  One hook in the center and then one hook in the corner.

vintage light

This is how well my husband knows me.  He bought this light bulb for my new lamp on his way home from work.  The Original Vintage Style light bulb.  Put the word vintage in the title and I am a sucker.  Ahhhhhh love him and this light bulb.

Hanging lamp

Ahhhhhh much better.  I still need to do something with the chain.  Any ideas!?!?!  Not thrilled with the gold, although with my school bus yellow paint it doesn’t look that bad.  Would totally loveeeeeeeeeee any ideas!!!

Thank you honey for your help.  Thank you for the light bulb, and thank you for the laugh.  xoxoxo
