“Can we do something with this!?!?” These are the words I do not like to hear from my husband.
We made a deal over a year ago. I had a booth at Metrolina, a big flea market antique show. We made a bet that if I made a certain amount of money he would never, EVER be able to say a word, complain, shake his head, or mumble under his breathe about any junk I brought home. I won that bet and it was the best day of my life. I didn’t care a thing about the money. To be able to bring home broken down pieces of furniture, wood from neighbor’s trash, bicycle wheels from the dump without him saying a word was just about the best thing in the world.
He has kept that promise until the other day……
I moved this green headboard out of the guest bedroom when I found these two doors at a yard sale.
I loved this headboard but you couldn’t see all the beautiful detail with that giant mattress. After I took it out of the guestroom it stayed in the hallway for a few days. Then it made it’s way downstairs to our foyer for a couple more days. It finally made its way to the garage where I cut off the legs with my saw and sat it here. This headboard came from Habitat Restore for $20.00. It was ugly and brown, but once I painted it, I feel in love.
This is where my husband broke his promise. “Can we please do something with this!?!?!” At first I didn’t think I heard him right. Was he talking to me????? A year of not having to explain myself or my little treasures had come to an end.
It was kinda big and in the way. I did need to do something with it and I was NOT getting rid of it.
So I got out my sander.
I also grabbed some candlesticks that my friend gave me after her spring cleaning.
Paint and glaze.
I used some of my favorite fabric and scotched taped it to one of my frames (wonder how long that will last) and then found some things from around my house.
I am happy with my new mantle and my husband is happy that he doesn’t have to move a bed frame to get to the trash!!!
