This is my happy place. I have talked about my sewing room/studio many times. I just love this room. I read in here, pray in here, create in here, I am writing this post in here. I would bathe in here if I had running water. It’s my place where I can be creative and it is completely and totally me. However I do have one small complaint. The lighting is horrible. I get great light during the day, but now that it gets dark at like 2:00 I have a hard time working in here when the sun goes down. That three bulb lamp on the fabric case is one of my allllll time favorite yard sale finds for $10.00 years ago. I love it but it is definitely does not put out enough light.
I have been keeping my eyes open when thrifting, for the perfect lamp to hang over my desk. Of course I didn’t want to spend a lot of money and it had to be unique, fun, and quirky. I saw this last week while thrifting with a dear dear friend. I pushed her out of the way to get to it first. Noooooooo just kidding, I would never do that.
Boy was it ugly…. but it was the perfect size, shape, and price.
I thought and thought about what I could do to it to give it new life. What color should I paint it, what could I glue on it, What could I hang from it. Then I did what every impatient person does. I went out to my garage and found the fullest can of spray paint, which just happened to be blue, and went with that. No trips to Lowe’s, no thinking about it for days. I just have to do it when I am thinking about it or it won’t get done.
Enter this guy. Well hello there hot man. Will you please pleassssssse step away from the football game to please please help me hang this lamp. Insert sweet voice and batting of the eyelashes.
We got tickled when husband stepped back and almost fell off my desk.
I continued to be tickled about it and couldn’t stop laughing. Here is where he says, “Stop laughing, put down the camera or I’m not helping you.” Ohhhhhh my gosh what is it with people tripping or falling down that totally cracks me up and sends me over the edge in a laughing fit?!?!?!
So I finally calmed down with the threat of him not helping me and we measured the room and found the center. One hook in the center and then one hook in the corner.
This is how well my husband knows me. He bought this light bulb for my new lamp on his way home from work. The Original Vintage Style light bulb. Put the word vintage in the title and I am a sucker. Ahhhhhh love him and this light bulb.
Ahhhhhh much better. I still need to do something with the chain. Any ideas!?!?! Not thrilled with the gold, although with my school bus yellow paint it doesn’t look that bad. Would totally loveeeeeeeeeee any ideas!!!
Thank you honey for your help. Thank you for the light bulb, and thank you for the laugh. xoxoxo

You can find me smiling at any yard sale, thrift store or flea market. I am a momma to two amazing kids and wife to one hot husband.

Hello….
I love your light… But as far as the chain I would measure it, then take fabric long enough to cover the chain plus more…. Sew it long ways down then side and string then chain thru. The reason for the fabric to be longer then the chain is to give it a bunched look.
Enjoy!!!
A pretty fabric “sleeve” gathered on the chain would be adorable. Love your space.
fabric!
Make one of those fabric covers – it will be long, but look cute! Or, weave ribbon through the chain???
I have been pondering light in my room as well, and think I am going to paint the small chandelier that is in there and leave it. How about wiring it into the ceiling?
I’ve never tried it, but I’ve seen sleeves, for lack of the proper term, made to cover chains for lamps. With your stash and creativity, surely you can find something, If you have the patience. hehehhe

Ha!! Looks like we were all thinking the same thing about fabric sleeves! My first thought was that it looks good in the picture as-is.
Other ideas: spray paint (either chrome for fun, or white to match your ceiling), wind different colored fabric strips through the links of the chain, new chain from a hardware store, leather or cotton rope.
Thanks for posting!
i see newspaper wrapped all around it. yes, newsprint fo sho. or burlap?
I absolutely love the way the light looked before, call me crazy! Granted it would not have looked right in your space… However, it would have been a great addition to mine
As far as the chain goes… How about chalk paint white?
You could also put ribbon through through the chain (you can also bead it too).
Personally I like the chain…it reminds me of the lights in our home in the 70′s. Fabric covers seem 80′s to me…but hey I’m getting old enough that 80′s style have come back around. (although I have yet to see the mauve and country blue decor revisit.)
oh, what about making a fabric scrap pendant and string it along and attach to the chains. pretty.
Vintage style light bulbs??
Whew knew?
(Apparently your husband, that’s who!)
I SOOOOO pinned those!
*swoon*
I know right!!!!!!!!! Crazy! I love it so much. Think he bought it at Lowe’s or Home depot!
lots of love Dana!!!
