Sometimes when you take a little break from creating, inspiration comes when you least expect it.
This is the little coffee cup that got my creative juices flowing. I don’t know if you have noticed but I haven’t been writing or posting as much. My need to hang with the kids this summer has taken over. I just haven’t had as much to time to create as I would like, but that’s ok. Those kiddos grow up fast and summers go by way to quick.
Anywho, I went on a little romantic getaway recently with my hubby (actually I just tagged along while he was traveling for work). Oh how wonderful it is just to hang out and spend time with the one you love. It really reminds you why you fell in love in the first place. Anywho back to the cup! I was having a very peaceful and quiet breakfast at the hotel. Oh did I mention that my kids were NOT with us? I started looking at my coffee cup and I fell in love with the little trees that decorated the cup! All of a sudden I couldn’t wait to get home. I had an idea! I was also excited to use my new Frog Tape that I had received in my goody bag at the Haven Conference.
When I got back home, I gathered up all my scrape pieces of wood and painted them grey, blue, and green.
Even though I have a serious extreme awful phobia of frogs (YUCKKKKKKKKKKKK I would rather swim with great whites then hold one of those nasty little creatures), I overlooked the name and grabbed the Frog Tape.
I taped off and painted some of the sections with brighter blues, greens and even threw in some pinks! I know I was getting a little wild!
Letting the paint dry was the hardest part of this project!
Sweet little Lilly loved using the frog tape as well. First she created this piece and then started working on this…
Finally the paint was dry and I pulled off the Frog Tape like it was Christmas morning!!!
I cut out several trees just like the one on my coffee cup. Insert inspiration. I had to throw in a few birds just because.
I really wanted to paint words that are meaningful to me under the trees and birds. However I CAN NOT paint words. I have tried so many times and have ruined so many pieces. So I remembered this backgammon game I bought at Habitat Restore for $4.00. No I didn’t buy it to play, I bought it for allllllll those little wood pieces!
If you’re open to it, it’s truly amazing all the different places you can be inspired!
My name is Angela Statzer and I love to incorporate just about anything into my artwork. Ranging from recycled materials, vintage items, wood, jewelry, other people’s junk, buttons and fabric, my style is fun and diverse. You can find me smiling at any yard sale, thrift store or flea market. I am a momma to two amazing kids and wife to one hot husband.

I’m in love with these!!!

I think I’m in love. Deeply;)!! Also found you at nesting place today. Love your free wheeling mix of everything! Can you share what you used to glue on the paper trees and birds? Did you modge podge the entire thing or polycril the wood? Looks sanded off, yet it has some shine to it. LOVE all I am seeing here!
Hi Mary!!
Thank you so much for your sweet comment!! Sometimes it’s scary to put your artwork out for all to see, so thank you for your encouragement!!! After I painted the wood, I sanded it really good with my electric sander. I then Modge Podge the paper birds and trees onto the wood! Usually I sand again and add glaze but i liked these brighter! Hope this helps!

Love these!!!!! We just had a carport installed & had to trim our 7 foot fence to allow for the roof of the carport. So now I have a bunch of silvery gray weathered worn wood pieces that vary in height from 6 to 8 inches. The other day I dug out 3 of them & painted them in ombre colors of teal, blue and green & then wasn’t sure how to proceed … until now!
Oh happy day! I’m pinning and stealing! Thank you so much for the inspiration!!!!
Ok Geri…Where do you live!?!? I am coming to get some of that wood! I would love to see what you do!

These are darling! I love when we are inspired by the most unexpected things! I also love that your daughter is creating with you! I grew up spending my days in my mom’s florist and I give credit to all those floral designs to my now freedom in creating!

Adorable! Just checked out your Etsy shop from nester’s site. I would love a bird pic for each of my littles – then I’d stick a tree pic right in the middle!!
Hahaha! Kerry if you are serious I will cut you a deal!:)
