This past weekend was yard sale heaven. My neighborhood was having our annual neighborhood yard sale with close to 70 homes participating. We even have a Friday night preview, where everyone opens their garage doors Friday evening so the neighbors can get a sneak peek and shop early. Yes a very happy time. In the past I would be out casing the neighborhood Friday afternoon, driving around all over looking in people’s garages, seeing if anyone was out getting their stuff ready and pricing stuff. I would stop and talk and then say, “OH are you doing the sale?? Can I take a look”!?
This year something was different. I just didn’t have that same… I have to go and have to be the first out there feeling. I actually just wanted to go out to dinner with the family Friday night. Then Saturday morning came around and I was up at my usual 5:30 am. But still I didn’t have that urgent I have to get out there and hunt feeling. I didn’t have any cash, so I knew I would have to drive out to the ATM, plus I was super happy in my PJ’s, on the couch, drinking coffee, reading and watching t.v. with my babies. Some days you have to hunt and some days you just have to chill.
I’m trying not to spend money lately. I’m saving for something extra special, more on that later. I already have lots of different things to work with. Awesome wonderful neighbors and friends bring me their “junk” that I always have so much fun working with. I have been trying to use what I have for my artwork. I have been looking around my house, in my garage, in neighbors trash, etc. trying to use what I have or what I can recycle.
I had this painting in my garage from one of last year’s yard sales. I think I paid a dollar for it. It was an original painting and although I did like it, it wasn’t really something I loved and the frame was really dirty.
I painted the entire frame and canvas with two coats of chalk paint.
I found a font I liked and printed out these letters from my computer.
I found these dictionaries a while back at the Habitat Resale Store. While I was flipping though them looking up dirty words, guess what I found……….
A four leaf clover!! I had to buy them after finding this!
A little Modge Podge and glaze mixed together.
A fun project using everything I had on hand!
So if you have a picture, or wall hanging, or frame, or piece of art that you no longer love, change it up! What is the worst that can happen? You mess it up. You didn’t really like it to begin with! But you could end up with something that you love that cost you nothing.
My name is Angela Statzer and I love to incorporate just about anything into my artwork. Ranging from recycled materials, vintage items, wood, jewelry, other people’s junk, buttons and fabric, my style is fun and diverse. You can find me smiling at any yard sale, thrift store or flea market. I am a momma to two amazing kids and wife to one hot husband.

love it!! Spent some shopping time at 32 Flavors on Saturday. CUTE stuff girl. BTW you're down to one owl
I got a birdie. Need to request a custom bag with pockets (so I can find my phone etc.) I was thinking about you when I saw all those yard sale signs. That's peace from the Lord that allows you to set that hunter/gatherer nature aside and enjoy your family. Well done sister!
Stayed home Saturday myself. No urge as you said. Seems you made a wise choice. Love what you did with the painting and i'm sure the kids liked having Mom chill with them on a Sat. morning.
I have been the same way lately…I have more than I have the time to work on already, and don't really need a thing! But it's hard when I know it's 50% off day at Goodwill or Savers, or when I see those garage sale signs… I just know there's something awesome there waiting for me! But I have been practicing restraint, until I get caught up with working on what I have. I'm sure you had a great, peaceful day with your family. Those are to be treasured! I LOVE what you did with the painting
