Button Bird Art and Giveaway!!!

I love making these button birds!  These birds were the first things I sold at Sanctuary of Davidson Gallery when I first started working there.  Lilly, my 8 year old daughter, made these as Christmas gifts for her grandmas, teachers, and friends.  The best part about this art project is that you don’t have to buy anything to make this.  Use what you have around the house.

Button Bird 8

I used two long pieces of wood from my wood collection in the garage.  I painted one white and the other my favorite, robins egg blue.  I cut them into smaller pieces with my jigsaw.

I added hardware to the back, but they also look pretty sitting on a bookshelf or windowsill.

Use a bird template to trace on newspaper, book pages, maps, pretty paper, old letters, or old cards.  I found my bird template in a book but there are a ton online.  You could even get crazy and draw your own!

I cut a few birds out of fabric scrapes.  Don’t forget to cut out wings.

Once you are done cutting out your birdie pieces, spread Modge Podge on the wood.  Glue your birdie down and make sure there are no bubbles. 


Grab some buttons for the eye and glue on with a glue gun.

    I saw the catepillar thing in the girls bathroom at church today and fell in love with it! I asked Cammie who made it and she told me it was you and shared your blog. I'm so happy she did! I will have to come to the Sanctuary to see what else is there! If I win a bird I would like number 8. So cute!!

    I love them all! I pinned #8 to my pinterest to link back to remember how cute too!! I would take any one of your fabulous creations…but am so sad it is closed!!! What inspiring creativity!

    My 12 year old daughter is always trying to come up with ideas to craft to fundraise for her child she sponsors at an orphanage in Honduras…With your permission I would love for her to create some of these for her next fundraiser.
