Upholstery School…..HELPPPPPPPPP

I have an unhealthy obsession with fabric, i love furniture, and I am always finding great pieces that just need a little love. Like these….

The one with the red velvet cushion was my mother’s day present!!! $35.00 from The Habitat Store. LOVE!
($30.00 from Value Village Thrift Store)
I have these two chairs in my house with fabric draped over them. My husband has been patiently waiting for me to do something with them..
($30.00 from Goodwill)
This one is draped in my great grandmother’s fabric!
The next natural step in my mind was to take an upholstery class!! Sooooo I found a great school right here in Charlotte, signed up and am half way though my schooling! I am taking the upholstery class from a place call Custom Home Finishings Academy http://www.chfindustry.com/. It is a great school that offers lots of classes like bedding fabrication, drapery, slip covering, and interior design. People come from all over to attend the school. In my group of 10, I am the only one from Charlotte. Others flew in from Maine, Atlanta, Florida and Indiana, just to name a few. My class is 6 days long from 8:30-5:00, and I finished my third day today.
Here I am working it!  I love the air compressor staple gun soooo much, i am seriously considering becoming a roofer instead.
I can’t believe how hard it is!!!!!!!!  I am the most inexperienced (and slowest) one of the group.   My chair is the one on the left and my classmate’s on the right!  As you can see, she is a little bit ahead of me!hahaha
The first day the instructor said, “make 400 inches of piping”.  I was like A. I don’t know how to use an industrial sewing machine B.  how do you even cut 400 inches of fabric for piping and C.  how do you even make piping!?!?!?!!! I am having a great time and learning so much everyday!  I am definitely doing something outside of my comfort zone and it feels great!  I don’t think i am going to open my own shop anytime soon but I think I might be able to finally tackle those chairs in my house!
and I did figure out how to make 400 inches of piping! Now if I can just figure out how to get it on the chair!

      Hi Liliane!
That post was written almost two years ago but I think the class was about 1500.00!!!!!!!! It’s so much money but totally worth it. The class was a week long from 8-5. I learned a lot. Too bad i hated every second of it! hahahahaha!
